Give them something to eat yourselves. Mark 6:37, Amplified.
Last week's session established a single governing principle: Kingdom supply follows Kingdom assignment, not the other way around. This session asks the question that principle leaves open. Once the assignment is real, how does the supply actually arrive — and what governs it once it does? Jesus supplies the test case directly. He gives His disciples a command before He gives them a mechanism.
The disciples answer with the earthly map, and their math is not wrong:
Shall we go and buy 200 denarii ... worth of bread and give it to them to eat? Mark 6:37, Amplified.
Two hundred denarii was roughly six to eight months wages. Thousands of people, a real number of loaves required, a real cost per loaf — the calculation is accurate. It is simply incomplete. Jesus does not correct the arithmetic. He asks a different question:
How many loaves do you have? Go and see. Mark 6:38, Amplified.
Five loaves and two fish were the only supply visible on the earthly map. Jesus takes what is actually available, orders the people to sit down, blesses it, and begins distributing:
And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve [small hand] baskets full of broken pieces [from the loaves] and of the fish. Mark 6:42–43, Amplified.
The disciples could not manufacture the multiplication. Their responsibility was to the Word they had received — to be obedient — the capacity belonged to God. That gives us our founding principle: God does not necessarily reveal the supply mechanism when He gives the Word or assignment. Jesus explains where His own commands come from, and it is not from what He can see is achievable:
The Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing. John 5:19, Amplified.
That is why calculation is never rejected — Jesus makes them count the loaves, and counting the cost before building remains good administration. What is rejected is calculation overruling the Word. The same principle governs where supply is permitted to come from. God is Source. Investors, banks, customers and employers are channels — real, and worth honouring, but not the Word and not the source:
Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Matthew 6:26, Amplified.
The moment a channel is quietly promoted to Source, its terms and reality begin to govern us, because we have decided we cannot afford to lose it. We have dropped from seeking first the Kingdom to seeking first the source. That is the harder test this session puts the spotligh on: not whether supply is real, but what government arrives with it. The temptation of Jesus is the clearest picture Scripture gives of an assignment offered under the wrong government. The devil shows Him every kingdom of the world and its glory, then names the terms:
These things, all taken together, I will give You, if You will prostrate Yourself before me and do homage and worship me. Matthew 4:9, Amplified.
The Father had already promised the Son the nations — the destination was never the problem. The altar attached to the offer was. A right assignment can be corrupted by obtaining its resources under the wrong government, which is why righteousness governs the transaction itself, not merely what it eventually funds. We are to seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness — it is a two pronged tes. That is what changes fundraising and changes business alike: not how much is being offered, but what is being asked to be worshipped in order to receive it.
The gate of Samaria is a critical lesson. The king's officer — the "CFO" —had already made his calculations resulting in his objection challenging the reality of the Word setting a forward pricing floor:
If the Lord should make windows in heaven, could this thing be? 2 Kings 7:2, Amplified.
The Word came to pass exactly as spoken:
So a measure of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two measures of barley for a shekel, as the Lord had spoken. 2 Kings 7:16, Amplified.
He saw the economic manifestation of the Word and did not participate in it. It is possible to read the circumstances with complete accuracy in wordly terms and still fail to recognise what Heaven is saying — to hear the Word without ever mixing it with faith:
But without faith it is impossible to please and be satisfactory to Him. Hebrews 11:6, Amplified.
Like the spies of the Promised Land in the Bible, we need the best earthly map we can obtain. But our map must give weight to the King that created the earth we are mapping! We need ears capable of hearing Heaven, because the map was never going to be the whole territory.
This session continues the Fourteen Gates teaching series, opened the previous week in Part I, "The Kingdom Has Its Own Economy — Why Supply Follows Government." It is Part II of a two-part talk.
